Every public holiday in 2026, country by country, grouped by region. Find your country’s full calendar, then check the long weekends and bridge days it creates.
Japan Public Holidays 2026
18 days off across 16 national holidays — including Golden Week (29 Apr – 6 May) and a rare five-day Silver Week (19 – 23 Sep).
United States Public Holidays 2026
11 federal holidays — banks, post offices and the stock market close, but most private employers don’t. Five long weekends.
UK Bank Holidays 2026
England & Wales get 8, Scotland 9, Northern Ireland 10 — the devolved difference catches visitors out every year.
Germany Public Holidays 2026
9 nationwide — but the real story is Ascension on Thursday 14 May, the single best bridge day of the German year.
France Public Holidays 2026
11 jours fériés with no regional variation at all — the most predictable calendar in Europe. Bastille Day lands on a Tuesday.
Spain Public Holidays 2026
10 national holidays plus regional ones. The puente de diciembre (5–8 Dec) is the one Spaniards plan their year around.
Italy Public Holidays 2026
12 national holidays and two Tuesday bridges — 2 June and 8 December. Ferragosto falls on a Saturday, which Italians will tell you is a waste.
Australia Public Holidays 2026
7 nationwide, but each state adds its own. Anzac Day falls on a Saturday — ACT, NSW and WA get a Monday substitute.
Canada Public Holidays 2026
12 federal statutory holidays. Thanksgiving sits on Monday 12 October — three weeks earlier than its American namesake.
How to use this page
Start with your country’s calendar to get the dates. Then look at the long weekends those dates create — that is usually the part that matters more than the holiday itself.
What’s new in 2026
- Christmas Day falls on a Friday in 2026, which gives most of Europe, the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand a four-day run into Boxing Day.
- Japan gets a five-day Silver Week (19–23 September) for the first time in years.
- Anzac Day falls on a Saturday — ACT, NSW and WA substitute the following Monday; other Australian states do not.
- US Thanksgiving is on 26 November, the latest it can fall, and Canada’s is three weeks earlier on 12 October.
More countries are being added
We publish a country calendar only when we can verify it properly against the issuing authority, so the list grows deliberately rather than all at once. If your country isn’t here yet, tell us and we’ll prioritise it.
