Our test

One question decides everything: would we take this on a two-week trip? Gear that only makes sense for a weekend, that needs its own suitcase, or that solves a problem we have never actually had does not make the list.

Buy less, pack lighter

The best gear decision is usually a subtraction. Most packing problems are solved by taking fewer things, not by buying a cleverer version of the thing you already own. Where we do recommend something, it is because it replaces two other items or removes a genuine annoyance.

Status

Full gear guides are in production. Recommendations are made independently and never influenced by commission; some links are affiliate links, disclosed where they appear.
